Can you easily quiet your mind and try to relax? Oh yes you can.

Let me explain:

I was on a radio show the other day. The discussion centered on the ability to relax in your daily hectic schedule. The radio host indicated that he tries to “still his mind” but before he knows it his mind wanders. So he has been trying for awhile to quiet the mind.

He knows he needs to stop, take a break and relax, that’s why he keeps on trying. But he is not making any progress. So he ends up in this endless loop where stress relief does not exist.

His frustration is so stressful that he stopped trying to find time to take a break. Sooner or later he will find time to take a break or the health consequences of not taking a break will force him to stop and slow down. Whatever mindset got the radio host to where he is today is no longer working.

Yes you guess it he needs to change his mindset about relaxation and enjoying stress relief.

The radio host has two challenges about relaxation:

His first challenge about relaxation

The first challenge is that he is attempting to bite off more than he can chew. What that means is that the ability to quite the mind is a very difficult undertaking without a competent facilitator. He can keep on trying to quiet the mind and continue to fall flat on his face or get a meditation coach and cut down the learning curve.

The radio host needs to first learn how to relax anywhere anytime. Then it would be much easier to cross over the bridge to meditation and learn how to quite the mind.

His second challenge about relaxation

He needs to incorporate ways of relaxing during his busy daily schedule for himself. These activities need to be like appointments for him. These relaxation breaks need to be simple enough so that he can always take them without creating more stress.

1. Take a 15 minute walk at lunch each day.

2. Sit on a park bench for 10 minutes and listen to the sounds of nature.

3. After work each day go for a 30 minute walk in the park.

4. Play a game of squash or racket ball during lunch or after work

So what is the moral of the story?

If you are trying to relax and quiet the mind and you discover you are still getting the same stressful results, it time to change. So you can continue to struggle and suffer the painful health consequences or seek help from a competent professional and enjoy stress relief.
