Yes you can relax and take a break by default.

Let me explain:

Mary one of my clients was having difficulty scheduling time to relax and take a break. Sometimes she was very successful and other times it was a total disaster to find time to relax. Mary very seldom listens to and followed my instructions.

It was Mary’s way or the highway. Mary would come home each evening from work to a busy home routine. She wanted the radio on. The television had to be on.

She would play with her grandson. Then she would watch her favorite Soap opera program. After the program is finished she would either make or have dinner.

Then one evening Mary came home and for some reason her grandson was not at home. She had no desire to listen to the radio or watch television. Mary reported that she had a shower and quickly fell asleep across the bed.

So I was curious to find out what lesson Mary learned from this experience. Mary revealed that her body always needed to take a break and rest for a short while in the evening. However, this was the first time that she experienced the reality.

You see, Mary actually noticed that she needed to take a break after coming home from work. (Sometimes we know intellectually without an experience) Mary’s other insight was that she thought it was impossible to take a break after coming home to a busy house from a hectic job.

So what is the moral of the story?

Sometimes the light bulb for stress relief and relaxation come on by default.
