Health and Fitness: Can You Have One Without the Other?

Couple enjoying health and fitnessHealth and fitness are partners in living a happy and fulfilling life. It is nearly impossible to enjoy your life to the fullest without being healthy. Part of being healthy is being physically fit.

Your quality of life will decrease if you are obese, abusing drugs or alcohol, or not getting the rest your body needs.

We want the best quality of life that is possible. A good health and a fitness program will help us have that.

What is the most overlooked key to health and fitness?

One of the most important and most overlooked keys to good health is starting your day with breakfast. Your body has gone without food for the night as you slept. You need to fill up your tank before you start the day.

This has several benefits; the most important being it jump-starts your metabolism and helps you burn fat.

Here are some good choices for breakfast…

Good choices for breakfast include whole grain cereals, yogurt and fruit, and whole grain toast with peanut butter. You will notice that foods with refined sugars are not included in what is considered a healthy breakfast!

Ok, I understand I need to have a healthy breakfast. How do I make physical activity  a part of my day?

How can you make physical activity a part of your day?

Stay active during your day. You can make time for physical activity even if you are holding down a job or spending six hours in class. Try to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.

OK, let’s look at some simple ways to stay active.

There are simple ways to get in physical activities. Use stairs instead of an elevator and park farther out in the parking lot and walk those few extra steps. Take a break every hour when you get up and get your body moving.

Stress Relief and this “wrong feeling.”

Stress relief and this “wrong feeling” can be frustrating if you attempt to ignore the feeling. How long can you disregard this “wrong feeling?” What will happen to this” wrong feeling” if you continue to brush it aside?

Let me explain

Mary was enjoying stress relief in her present job. She had a hobby which was her passion. Mary wanted to make more money and knew her hobby and her passion would answer her prayers and that means that she would also enjoy greater stress relief.

Mary’s thought that her problem was that – “she needed more discipline to sort everything related to her hobby.” Mary requested my assistance in helping her resolve this issue. In my discussions with Mary she expressed a desire to lose weight.

She indicated that she would lose weight but quickly gain it back. As we look in deeper into the discussions Mary admitted that if she lost weight she would have a “wrong feeling.” This “wrong feeling” came about because Mary appreciated being noticed.

So when she lost weight and got lots of attention she also experienced this “wrong feeling.” This “wrong feeling” was like a stuck feeling and just kept on getting in her way and driving her up a wall. With a little assistance on my part, Mary was able to deal with this “wrong feeling” and admitted that this “wrong feeling” was as a result of her avoiding feeling sexy.

So what is the moral of the story?

Is it good to confront our feelings? Or do we avoid our feelings and hope they will go away? Does avoiding your feelings get you stress relief?

Feelings are only message indicating that we need to address some aspect of our lives. These messages can help us gain focus, defeat depression and increase our self confidence.

Stress relief and weight loss comes from helping others

Do you think that stress relief and weight loss comes from helping others?

Let me explain.

Mary had been pulling out her hair in her fight with stress relief and weight loss for many years. Mary’s challenge relating to weight loss was that she had enrolled in many weigh loss programs but always gave up in frustration. Her frustration had reached a boiling point and she asked for my help.

Mary love helping other people and she experienced profound stress relief from the satisfaction she derived from seeing other people get what they wanted base in part on her advice. So Mary was always looking for people to help. Helping people made her day.

Helping people to Mary was amazingly effortless, like taking candy from a baby. The flip side to the story was that Mary thought that by helping others she had a right to demand that they in turn help her when she needed help. You guess it no one paid Mary any attention.

After many disappointments, arguments and raising her blood pressure, Mary decided that there had to be another solution because she felt abandoned and did not cope well when she needed help and no one pitched in to help her out.

In working with Mary, she realized that losing weight to her was “hard work.” After her perception of “hard work” was shifted through my facilitation, she now admits that she had made her life extremely difficult and stressful by having fun helping people and forsaken herself (seeing doing things for herself as hard work).

So what is the moral of the story?

Sometimes consciously or unconsciously you can set an outcome to help others (by giving advice) and you may experience great joy from this experience. However, you may not for many reasons have an outcome in life for yourself either in a specific aspect of your life or in your entire life because you never thought it necessary.

Let go of control and enjoy weight loss

You can let go of control and lose weight loss if you stay focused on what you want. Mary wanted to experience stress relief by reducing her weight but she always seem to put on more weight or maintain her overweight. She asked me to help her solve her weight problem.

Let me explain

Mary was holding onto to everything in her life. “Holding on” for Mary meant that she wanted to be in charge of everything. She wanted to protect her children so that they did not make mistakes.

She wanted to tell her husband how to live his life. Even at work when the window cleaners came to clean the windows she would ran after them if she felt they missed a spot.

Nobody was doing anything the way she wanted it done. Apparently, Mary’s way was the only way or so she thought. I explained to Mary that she could not continue holding onto to everything.

Mary through my facilitation finally admitted that she knew what I was saying all along. However her logical mind kept on getting in the way. Her insights and present understanding now allows her to see her daily problem, issues and stresses from a different perspective.

Mary is also aware of the fact that not only has she been taking on the weight of the world but she has also been carrying (wearing) the weight of the world on her body. This is one of the reasons for her being overweight and unable to lose weight.

So what is the moral f the story?

Sometimes you are to close to the forest to see the trees. When you view the feelings of your challenges from a different perspective like seeing the trees within you, then you have the power to make the appropriate changes within.

You may also realize or not that most things on the outside are out of your control.

Stress Relief and Weight loss

Mary was struggling with stress relief and weight loss problem for a long time.

Let me explain

Mary craved other people’s opinion to make her feel good and experience stress relief. She went to the hair dresser and got her hair done in an amazing style. She really felt she could relax and focus after leaving the hairdresser. However if no one noticed her hair style or paid her a compliment she would go into a depressed state because  she felt no one cared to noticed. This behavior made Mary gain weight. She actually started binging on chocolate and putting on weight.
I introduce Mary to a meditation which allowed her to see herself stunningly attractive having lost weight.

You see Mary had never considered herself beautiful before. After Mary had given herself incredible compliments in the meditation she remembered what it felt like to lose weight and enjoy stress relief.

When she understood and was given permission to find a quiet place of relaxation (to imagine herself looking really sexy at her ideal weight) and the ability to hear the wonderful compliments she gave herself, she experienced how much energy and self confidence she now has as she did this exercises more often.

This little exercise allowed Mary to regain her self confidence and eliminate her need for other people’s opinion to make her feel good.

This exercise works well if you habitually need other people to tell you how well you look.

So what is the moral of the story?

If you are not aware of your beauty within then you will need other people to make you feel good about yourself.
