Baby boomers and Moms can enjoy stress relief by being perfect

Baby boomers and moms can enjoy stress relief by being perfect in an imperfect world.

Let me explain

I experienced profound stress relief on Thursday Jan12, 2006, when I gave my first teleseminar. The topic was “Get answers to your 12 most important questions about overwhelm.” When you are presenting a new project there are a lot of things that can go wrong.

For example I thought I understood how to use the different codes on the phone for conducting the teleseminar. When the call began it was like walking and chewing gum at the same time. While I was doing my presentation (walking), I very quickly discovered that I did not know or was not familiar with how to mute out the noises and how to open and close the line (chewing gum).

This experience is very important because sometimes you may feel that you are not ready to handle a new situation. This awareness should also remind you that you are not perfect if you were ever considering such thoughts.

In my case I did the best I could under the circumstances, knowing that this was only the beginning of my experience with presenting teleseminars. Stress relief for me was experiencing a new beginning. Interestingly enough I got emails after the call congratulating me on the call.

Here is one comment, “Just want to let you know that I really enjoyed your teleseminar last night. Sorry if I was noisy; I was calling from a supermarket at that time, but I’m really glad I did. You were really great and I would call in again. I was taking notes and I really felt like I learned a lot. It’s a great tool!” R .P.

So what is the moral of the story?

It is difficult to grow by standing still. You need to move out of your comfort zone and use the feedback from what you did right or wrong to help you grow and expand.

Stress Relief can help you stay focused

Stress Relief can help you stay focused especially if you are always rushing or in a hurry.Let me explainMary had made great progress on her journey of enjoying stress relief. Every now and then, Mary would run into a road block, because life did not go the way she expected. This road block was evident when Mary felt stuck (rushing or always in a hurry) and was no longer enjoying stress relief.

So how did Mary become unstuck?

When Mary became stuck she became very irritable and impatient. She started to rush herself out of this stuck state in order to stay focused.  However the more she rushed the deeper she got into her stuck state.

With some facilitation, Mary discovered that she could stay focused by playing more in her life (Mary was taking life too serious).

Playing more

Mary could play and stay focused in many ways. Perhaps the simple and most exciting way was to recall a pleasant memory. Mary quickly and easily recalled the time when she was 15 years old and she stole her father’s car.

Pleasant memory

This memory helped Mary to stay focused while regaining her self-confidence and patients. Play for Mary now meant stealing her father’s car and she could find this awesome memory instantly. In her playing state Mary found the answer to her stuck state.

So what is the moral of the story?

A stuck state is merely an opportunity to stay focused. life lessons are usually presented to you as “road blocks.” Now you can choose to play (find a past pleasant memory). Recalling this memory will allow you to receive answers to your stuck state.

Working parents can enjoy stress relief

Working parents can enjoy stress relief so that
they can focus for success.
Maryanne took the summer off to get away from practicing the basics of stress relief. The art of enjoying stress relief requires effort and dedication.

Let me explain.

Maryanne used to attend regular weekly classes and practices the basics of meditation. During the summer however, Maryanne did not attend classes for over 3 months. She thought that she could take a holiday from classes (meditation classes) without any consequences because Maryanne was having fun doing “what she wanted to do.”

Consequence of not practising

3 months later Maryanne discovered that she was very tired, had 2 sinus infections as well as a cold and to top it off, her back “went out.” She was also experiencing physical pain and felt as though she was stuck.

Practising Again

After returning to class for 1 week Maryanne realized that she spent very little time doing the basic (practicing regular meditation) and paid the dangerous penalty of excruciating pain and discomfort.

Confession

Maryanne confessed that she had made all kinds of excuses for not being at class and also became aware that it is time to stop making excuses and get on with enjoying her life.

So what is the moral of the story?
Stress relief is a part of living and you cannot take a “holiday” from living.

A pedicure is a great stress relief strategy for pampering your feet

A pedicure is a great stress relief strategy for pampering your feet. While on holiday in Barbados my partner took me to see Linda (a pedicurist) to experience foot pampering which I discovered to be another form of stress relief.

A pedicure is another name for foot pampering.

So what is a pedicure?

I sat in a chair and put my feet in warm water or a paraffin wax. My feet were soaked in warm water for a while and that made them feel suppler. My toe nails were clipped shaped, then buffed and my cuticles were pushed back.

The process also allows for the removal of dead skin by scrubbing the bottom and the sides of my feet. Some services offer a massage which is a wonderful form of relaxation. Out of curiosity I did an unofficial survey to find out why people have pedicures.

Unofficial survey

Generally everyone in my unofficial survey agreed that a pedicure makes your feet feel and look good. Also the appearance of your toes look elegant and your heels are as smooth as silk.

Then as you walk, you feel more confident because you are more relaxed and enjoying stress relief.

So when you get all dressed up or in your casual attire, in your opened toed shoes with no back or sandals then you can experience a wonderful form of relaxation.

Touch

I also discovered that for some people the physical touch of a pedicure is a form of stress relief. Others like the gentle touch of the massage and the feeling of their feet in the warm water.

Personally the removal of the dead skin from my feet made me feel light and gave me a profound awareness of my feet.

Poor Circulation

My pedicurist Linda told me that a pedicure is also good stress relief for people who have poor circulation in their feet.

Men and Pedicures

I also asked Linda what was her experience with men and pedicures?

Linda said,” When I started my practice 9 years ago, men thought that a pedicure was a “feminine thing”. Now in the last 6 years men have been enjoying the light feeling of the removal of the dead skin from the bottom of their feet and the stress relief of the feeling of warm water on their feet. Some women have also brought their partners who wear sandals to have their feet pampered so that the feet look good in sandals.”

So what is the moral of the story?

You can pamper your feet and enjoy stress relief.

Working Moms success or failure is determined by how well they cope with unexpected stressful situations

Working Moms success or failure is determined by how well they cope with unexpected stressful situations. Chaos or tragedy comes without warning.

Let me explain:

I am presently in Barbados on holiday enjoying the beautiful weather. The white sandy beach is quiet and peaceful in the early morning. The beach is punctuated by the sound of the waves as they crash against the shore.

The smell of the sea and early morning sea baths is an amazing feeling. The blue sky and the crystal clear water creates a wonderful state of peace of mind.

While I was sleeping last night it rained. As the rain drops “pelted down” on the roof top I was reminded of a wonderful childhood experience of stress relief.

The Orchard

In the morning I walked in silence into the backyard and visited an incredible orchard. I was first attracted to the plum and cherry trees which were pregnant with ripe fruit.

I felt like a little child again. Some of the ripe plumbs were way below eye level while others were above. Then I went over to the cherry tree where I got up close and personal. This tree was much taller and presented a challenge for me to reach those delicious bright red cherries.

In order to get at the cherries I had to pull the branches towards me. As I pulled the branches I was bathed in the ecstasy of a surprising shower of water. You see… as I mentioned before it had rained during the night.

When I let go of the branches again I got another surprising shower. The cherries were glowing red as I excitedly pulled on the branches and picked more cherries. This pulling and letting go of the branches provided a wonderful opportunity to be in the moment.

Daily Challenges

In our daily living you will experience challenges of stress. Most challenges come with no warning. Your success or failure in life will be determined by how well you handle unexpected challenges.

So what is the moral of the story?

Chaos, tragedy and unexpected challenges are a reality of life. The secret is how well and quickly you can acknowledge your situation and use the appropriate coping strategy to regain balance.
