You can improve your health by taking off your shoes and enjoy stress relief during the holiday season.
Let me explain
When Mary came into my office I knew she was stressed because she was wearing her shoes. Normally Mary leaves her shoes at the door downstairs.
I was curious to discover how she created this stress. With a little detective work I discovered that Mary likes to take control of the situation.
Stress relief Strategy
Mary goes to work with a plan of action (this is what I plan to do today) but the nature of her work does not allow her to execute her plan. She is as busy as a cat on a hot tin roof.
Being busy takes Mary away form her plan (comfort zone) of action which really makes her feel like a fish out of water.
Getting rid of stress
In other words Mary wants to get rid of all the activities that cause her to be busy and get back to her plan of action. In trying to get back to her plan of action Mary is totally stressed because she sees no light at the end of the tunnel.
Plan of action is not an effective stress relief strategy
You see she just wants to do her plan of action which is “going against the grain”. So when Mary came into my office with her shoes on, I knew she was out of her usually routine. This meant that Mary was dealing with a stressful situation.
Mary wanted to control a situation which was out of her control at work. Instead of going with the flow of chaos in the office she wanted to put chaos in order.
So what is the moral of the story?
If you were to examine YOUR control factor, you may understand that you can create stress by attempting to force things to happen rather than going with the flow.
It’s Mary’s way or the highway.
