Stress Relief and better Relationships

Stress Relief and better Relationships can be achieved by staying focused on your outcome. Mary was looking for stress relief but had lost sight of her outcome. Mary wanted to have a better relationship with her partner but kept on focusing on the little upsets in the relationship.
Let me explain.
Mary was in a relationship for many years and now she became irritated by the simple things her partner did, like leaving the toilet seat up after use and putting the toilet paper roll on the “wrong way”. Mary was becoming more and more frustrated.
What Mary did not realize was that her partner had always done these things (leaving the toilet seat up after use and putting the toilet paper roll on the “wrong way”.) from the time they met. So her partner wondered what was causing her to get her knickers in a knot. Check out this resource to help you to stay focus.
Mary came to see me, explaining how inconsiderate her partner had become and asking for my help. I asked Mary what had attracted her to her partner? She told me he was fun, considerate, kind and supportive in the things she was interesting in doing.
Remember, Mary had indicated that her partner was inconsiderate and this was one of the qualities she admired about her partner. So what changed? With a little facilitation on my part, Mary realized that she had lost her focus.
Initially when she met her partner she saw him as a “whole” person and respected that “whole” person. Now that Mary had lost focus she was looking for every “hole” in her partner’s character to attack.
Through the acknowledgment of her behavior, Mary discovered that she also had “holes” or imperfections, which if taken apart from her “whole” person could be very irritating.
So what is the moral of the story?
An effective outcome requires that you focus on the great qualities of that person. When you focus on the negatives you will always be aware of the person’s “holes” inadequacies. However, these inadequacies or weaknesses are sometimes more than compensated for in the positives or the awesome qualities of the “whole” person.
