What does stress Relief and Knitting needles have to do with an ulcer?

Let me explain:

One of my students, Maryanne, called me and told me that her mom had an ankle ulcer and wondered if I had a solution for her stress relief from her pain. Her mom expressed the feeling in her ankles as “darn knitting needles.”

So the question is:

How can Maryanne get her mom stress relief from the pain without taking medication?

I suggested that Maryanne asked her mom what color was the “darn knitting needles”? When she tells her the color, ask her to change the color (of the darn knitting needles) in her mind (say from red to blue).

The purpose of changing the color is to distract her mom’s mind away from the feeling of the darn knitting needles. When she shifts from the feeling to the color then there will be no longer be in any discomfort.

May not work for everyone but you can sure give it a whirl.
